21 Tubridy’s

Turbridy’s was originally owned by the McInerney’s. It was long low L shaped house with a pub, grocery and bakery and dates back to 1757. There was an orchard at the back where the caravan park is now. In the late 1800’s they used to host a Christmas banquet for the landed gentry.

Mortimer McInerney is registered as a shop keeper and publican in the 1911 Census. His daughter Kathleen married Collins back in Kilkee but died young leaving 2 daughters. They were returned to McInerney’s to be reared by a childless aunt and uncle. One of these girls (Kathleen) married Tubridy from Cooraclare and they took over the bar. The name Tubridy went over the door of the pub in the 1970s. The photo of the bar shows the young Tommy Tubridy, current proprietor, standing in the door.

The Turbridy family still run the successful business.
