Doonmore House

28 Doonmore House

Doonmore House and the surrounding land was owned by brothers PJ and Bernie Frawley. They were considered small landlords and they never married.

Where the graveyard is now was an orchard, where local children went to steal apples. However, the Frawley’s had Alsatian dogs so robbing apples was at your peril!

There were other small landowners in the parish including Blackhall in Killard House and Singleton in Baltard House.

On the Kilkee Road, behind the Church of Ireland graveyard was the house of the biggest landlord – originally Copeland but subsequently Studdert (a nephew). They eventually submitted their land to the Land Commission and relocated to land in Co. Meath.
