22 Drapers May Haugh & Fitzmartins next door
This was originally a house and then one of the many drapery shops in the village. May Haugh owned it. She never married and opened a little draper shop for ladies which was there until 1980s.
About 150 years ago the people used to sow flax. When grown they used to pull it, bog it, bleach it, take it home, pound it, dry it, clove it, hackle it, spin it, and weave it into cloth. Then the local tailor would make them into clothes.
Next door to Haugh’s was the Fitzmartins and they owned a little grocery and sweet shop.
